Thomas Kirton
Thomas began his career in insurance litigation with the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia in 2016. In 2024, he earned his Chartered Insurance Professional designation, further solidifying his expertise in the field.

Mediation marks Thomas' third career. He initially worked as a geologist in a remote mining community in Northern Ontario before transitioning to insurance, where he specialized in resolving personal injury claims with the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia. Throughout his tenure at ICBC, he successfully resolved over 800 personal injury claims, gaining extensive experience in claim resolution.

With a diverse professional background, Thomas brings a unique and well-rounded perspective to the mediation process. His commitment to fairness and his ability to navigate complex disputes make him a valuable asset in achieving equitable resolutions for all parties involved.

Kara Collins
Kara brings extensive experience in litigation resolution, with a career spanning over three decades in the insurance and legal sectors. She began her tenure with ICBC in 1991, transitioning to the litigation department in 1998, where she specialized in resolving personal injury insurance claims. In this role, she collaborated with lawyers from the Public Guardian and Trustee Office, as well as a wide range of personal injury attorneys representing both plaintiffs and defendants. Her expertise in mediation contributed to an exceptional resolution success rate exceeding 98%.

In 2017, Kara advanced into a management role within ICBC’s Claims Injury and Legal department. This position broadened her expertise as she took on responsibilities including decision making authority of claim assessments, and resolution strategies for teams under her leadership. She also played a role in several high-impact projects, such as corporate vendor procurement, developing and delivering an organization-wide risk assessment presentation, as well as managing a specialized settlement team focused on pragmatic early resolution of outstanding tort matters.

In 2022, Kara further solidified her expertise by earning the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation, deepening her knowledge of insurance and business-related matters. Her commitment to fair and equitable resolutions, combined with her ability to assess risk, navigate complex disputes, and facilitate effective communication among stakeholders, makes her a valuable asset in the mediation process.
